In addition to widening and leveling the Hidden Lake Park Run to allow for a better jump line and more rail options, the crew built 2 new features in the Lumberjack zone. The first is a 40 foot plus straight log slide nic-named "the Howitzer" because of it's cannon like appearance. The second is an up-flat-down feature built from old power poles that has yet to be named.

Powder Mountain in the fall

enjoy!

Powder Mountain founder to be inducted into ski hall of fame

Alvin F. Cobabe, 91, founder of Powder Mountain; Albert "Sunny" Korfanta, founder of White Pine Ski Area and Pat Miller, who coached University of Utah ski teams are the 2008 inductees into the Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame. The hall of fame, located in the Alf Engen Ski Museum, was established in 2002 and this trio will increase the number of honorees to 38.

Powder Mountain Ski Area owes its existence to a one-time sheep rancher-turned radio and television engineer-turned earth moving contractor-turned medical doctor-turned ski area founder. That is the incredibly diverse career path of Alvin Cobabe, who as a youngster ski jumped off the sloping roofline of the family barn. That daring-do spirit forged Cobabe’s multifaceted career that eventually led to his establishing the popular ski area east of Ogden.

While his numerous business, educational and medical exploits are noteworthy, skiing was always in his veins…and in his heart. Cobabe answered the siren call of the snowy slopes once again in the early 1960’s when he installed a small rope tow on his family’s ranch at the bottom of Wolf Creek Canyon. In February, 1972 Powder Mountain was born and, quite naturally, Cobabe operated the ski site’s medical clinic as well as being the general manager while family members managed the area’s other details.

Alvin was instrumental in adding night skiing, new chairlifts and tows, mountain restaurants, overnight accommodations, back country shuttles and a private helicopter skiing service. No doubt, his legacy as a ski pioneer who made Powder Mountain a skier’s paradise will be rekindled every time it snows in Eden.

Powder Mountain congratulates Dr. Cobabe and all of his family on the awarding of this prestigious honor.

http://www.standard.net/live/news/143416/

Big, Comfy Ride

Check out the Powzilla article that was in the Standard Examiner and some youtube footage of Powzilla in action.

http://www.standard.net/xplore/142814/

Powder Mountain and Labor Day

Summer is coming to an end but we still have great Summertime Deals at Powder Mountain.

If you haven't purchased your season pass or your Utah Powder Pass yet, you have another chance.

Powder Mountain will be offering the lowest price of the year on season passes at the BEAT THE HEAT RAIL JAM AND SALE on Saturday, August 30 at Decade. Procrastinators should be aware that the increase in the pass price this year is based on the number of season passes sold rather than the date. For example, the lowest price of $650 for an adult pass will be available to the first 300 purchasers. Once 300 passes are sold the price increases to $715. The price jumps again once 550 passes have been purchased.

In response to the rising prices at the pump, Powder Mountain is offering free shuttle service from Eden to our guests. We have also lowered the K -12 and military season pass prices. For the first time, discounted season pass rates will also be extended to retired military. For a complete list of season pass prices, go to www.powdermountain.com.

A weekday discount card for Utah residents, the Utah Powder Pass, was offered for the first time last season. The Utah Powder Pass will only cost $20 if purchased by September 1. "The program was so popular with our local customers that we decided to reward their loyalty by offering an even bigger weekday discount this season," remarked Gregg Greer, President and CEO of Powder Mountain Resort Management. "With the Utah Powder Pass locals save between 29 - 35% on a lift pass. For example, you save $16 on an adult day pass."

About Powder Mountain Resort

Located 19 miles from Ogden, Powder Mountain Resort offers over 5,500 acres of skiable terrain. In both 2006 and 2007, SKI Magazine rated Powder Mountain in the top two for snow quality and the top three for value. Plans to grow the resort into a world-class destination are already underway.

Powder Mountain in the summer

We all know Powder Mountain is beautiful in the winter, but many aren't aware that Powder Mountain is just as beautiful in the summer. Around 300 employees and their families shredded one last time at Hidden Lake, joined in games and feasted at a massive barbeque. To honor the front line staff, management manned Hidden Lake lift, ran games, served food and gave out goodies. No one left empty handed and Wes Goldsberry won the grand prize - a new set of Solomon skis!

Congratulations to Richard Wood, i.e. Woody. He is the first recipient of the James Peak Lifetime Achievement Award. For many years, Woody has worn two hats at Powder Mountain - Manager of Night Operations and Manager of the Shuttle Department. Woody started at Powder Mountain in 1982, around the time that Powder Country began operation. His bus quickly became known as the "only four wheel drive lift" in the country and many know Powder Country as "Woody World". In the height of the season, Powder Country shuttles often transport 1,000 to 2,000 riders a day. The Powder Mountain fleet of 5 buses and 2 vans run regular pick ups at Eden lodging properties and are often chartered by groups staying in Ogden or Layton. The results of the biggest backcountry gear test ever will be published in September.

Valley Lodging at Wolf Creek and the Ogden/Weber Convention & Visitors Bureau assisted in attracting the publications to Powder Mountain. By staging the tests at Powder Mountain, Backcountry was able to bring in its entire editorial staff and seasoned testers from across the nation.

Outside Magazine, dedicated to the active lifestyle since 1978, is joining the Backcountry test for one reason: authenticity. "I'm really excited to team up with Backcountry Magazine this season," says Sam Moulton, editor of Outside Magazine's Buyer's Guides. "It's better for everybody. Manufacturers only have to mount up and send one fleet of skis, boots, and bindings. But the biggest benefit will be the end product. By joining forces, and sharing testers, data, and our respective expertise, each magazine will be able to provide our readers what they want-more in-depth and authoritative reviews."

"What makes us special," says Powder Mountain Director of Public Relations Carolyn Daniels, "is an additional 2,700 acres of powder served only by shuttle, snowcat, or skins." Testers should find prime testing conditions-Powder's already seen 347 inches of snow fall through Valentines Day. "Our reputation is for untracked pow," says Daniels, "and our loyal fans are the same people who read Backcountry and Outside. What a perfect match."

Hopes are that the Backcountry Rendezvous will return to Pow Mow next season.

For more info go to

http://www.backcountrymagazine.com/pmt_skitest_mar08.html

http://www.ogdenvalleymagazine.com/index.php?option=com_seyret&task=videodirectlink&id=63

Spring Session Pictures

A Powder Mountain tradition! This event is the highlight of the freestyle season. It was a party, pipe jam, rail jam, barbeque, and DJ battle rolled into one. The company operates on 10,000 acres of permitted snowcat terrain on Buffalo Pass and has an excellent reputation in the industry.

Rod Kelly, Powder's Operations Manager was stunned when Kent Vertrees, Master of Chaos for Steamboat Powdercats, called to arrange a year-end party for the staff of 14!

On the first day, the group of powerful skiers and enthusiast chanters explored the resort from top to bottom. They started the day with Lightning Ridge snowcat and ended out of bounds on the Powder Snowcat Safari. In between, they searched for freshies off every lift, in Cobabe Canyon and in Powder Country. At the end of the day, they adjourned to the Powder Keg to share tales pow and to reward their guides, Phil and Steve.

Thanks for choosing Powder Mountain!

Snowcat Powder Safari

The morning starts with a safety orientation followed by a snowcat ride to over 1,000 acres of exclusive bowls, glades and chutes for a day gliding on untracked snow...

The Snowcat Powder Safari is new to the 07/08 season at Powder Mountain.
